There are several things that absolutely suck about being quarantined, but if you use this time wisely and productively, you can make the situation a bit better for yourself. Instead of wasting this time doing things that aren’t benefiting your life in any way, use it as an intensive self-care period and pretend you’re on a month long spa retreat. While we’re all bored at home, making DIY face masks is a great way to pass the time and perfect your skin!
I find a lot of store bought face masks contain too many unnecessary and sometimes damaging chemicals and ingredients. I feel safer using a mask that I’ve made myself with only a few ingredients from the kitchen. Here are some easy face mask recipes that are approved for almost any skin type.
Avo Honey Hydrating Mask:
Honey + Avocado:
2 whole avocados
¼ cup of Manuka honey
Mix the avocado and honey until there are no lumps. Apply to face and leave on for 15-20 minutes.
Oatmeal Rose Calming Mask:
2 tbsp of dry oats
1 tsp of milk (you can use any kind)
1 tsp of rose water
1 tsp of plain yogurt
Add the oats and milk to a blender and blend until smooth. Mix in the rosewater and yogurt with a spoon until it forms a thick paste. Apply to face and leave on for 20-30 minutes.
Antibacterial Turmeric Mask:
2 tbsp of Manuka honey
1 tsp of lemon juice (freshly squeezed is preferred)
1 tsp of turmeric powder
Combine all ingredients in a bowl, mix and apply. Leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with a cleanser and warm water (the turmeric will temporarily stain your skin so you’ll want to wash it off well).
Tightening Raw Mask:
1 egg white (use organic, free range eggs)
1 tbsp Manuka honey
A squeeze of lemon
Mix all ingredients in a bowl and leave on for 10 minutes. Make sure you don’t have an egg allergy or this will cause a rash or irritation.
Brightening Papaya Mask:
½ papaya
1 tbsp Manuka honey
Mask the papaya in a bowl until there are no lumps. Mix in the honey and leave on for 20 minutes.
Anti-Oil Charcoal Mask:
1 tbsp on activated charcoal (or 6-7 capsules)
2 tbsp of water
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
3 drops of essential lavender oil
Mix all ingredients in a bowl until a thick paste forms. Apply to face for 10-15 minutes and rinse.
