Sometimes emotions catch us off guard and we’re confused as to why there is a sudden feeling of disconnect. Uncomfortable emotions can unexpectedly sneak up on us such as anger, bitterness, discomfort, guilt, and shame. These emotions may make it difficult to foster and maintain internal peace. As such, cultivating emotional safety during your darker days is crucial because it provides you with a sense of security and stability, helping you to cope with, and navigate external conditions as you move through your daily life.
“All of our emotions are our babies. Treat them tenderly, care for them. Be with them. Understanding and compassion will ultimately transform them.” — Thich Nhat Hanh
It’s not always easy to keep ourselves together and find peace of mind amidst the chaos that is life. Closeness with self is a practice. A commitment to personal work is necessary in order to develop supportive coping mechanisms during your darker days, and to work towards loving yourself. These therapeutic moments help you to understand where your worth is derived from and reinforces the belief that you are capable even in the scariest moments. In retrospect, you will learn how to reflect on yourself from a self-loving, intentional place while proving to yourself that you are worthy of healing and truly enough.
Take care,
